5.8 - Good Parents

I swear these two act more like children than their children do.

Gem’s one thing, but even Trinity tends to act more grown up than her parents. She’s quiet, well behaved, and learns quickly despite not being a born genius.

Jade likes keeping busy. The house technically belongs to her, but she’s starting to feel like the friend who lives on her best friends’ couch. Nico and Coral are engaged, their family growing, and what does Jade have? A broken heart, a shitty and dangerous job, and a quickly growing belly. If she sits down, she gets sad, so most of her pregnancy is spent in her studio working.

Its no surprise that thats where she is when the labour pains hit.

Jade and Coral went to the hospital while the sun was still up, but by the time they return home the full moon is high in the sky.

She has twins. A boy named Maven.

And a girl named Marise.

The next day is Saturday, and Gem would MUCH rather be out with Gator playing in the dirt than sitting in the dining room in a pinchy suit his dad bought for him.

Nico and Coral finally got things sorted out with the law, Nico having to change his surname back to Dracule before Serena Durwood (local politician) would stop giving them weird looks and pass over a marriage certificate.

All the paperwork was done last night, so technically they’re already legally married, but they don’t feel married until they exchange rings.

Gem really doesn’t see what the big deal is. He grew up thinking they were already married.

But this whole ceremony does force Gem to think about things a little differently. All his friends have both parents, or at least understand why their family is the way it is. Gem knows Nico is his dad, but if Nico and Coral are just getting married now does that mean Coral isn’t his real mom? Where did his real mom go? What happened to her?

“Coral IS your mom.” Nico tries explaining, hoping to put an end to this conversation now. “She cares for you, and she’s always loved you. Thats what makes her your real mom.”

That so doesn’t answer Gem’s question, but he’ll drop the subject for now.

After all, Fawn Goodfellow just called to hang out and you do NOT say no to that girl.

Life doesn’t change after the wedding.

Jade invests in some bees. Bottle of potent discord is her best seller so far, and it requires a fair bit of beeswax.

Her twins become toddlers while mommy’s working in her studio.

Maven takes after his father.

Marise has her mother’s colouring, but is most definitely Markus’ daughter... poor kid.

Nicolas fully prefers his own daughter to Jade’s twins, and spends his free time taking care of her like Coral did Gem.

Gem took his first steps with Coral. Trinity takes her first steps with her daddy.

There’s something different about his little girl, and Nicolas knows full well that he should have been the same father to Gem. Hopefully his son won’t remember those early toddler days and Nicolas can make it up to him by being a good father now.

Jade can only ever be with one child at a time, and since Maven cries louder Marise finds herself alone most of the time.

Sometimes she’s alone too much. Watcher doesn’t even know HOW she managed to get her head in there.

Coral picks Marise up and takes her to bed... then heads downstairs to have a few choice words with Jade.

“But Coral, my work is important and-”

“More important than your own kids? Jade they need you! Their father basically abandoned them, don’t tell me you’re planning on doing the same.”

She’s right of course. And that’s what really hits home for Jade.

She wasn’t ready to be a single mother, wasn’t ready for a guy who said he loved her to just up and disappear. But none of that is her childrens’ fault, and Jade has to at least try.

---

Is Jade brave? Yes. Is she mature enough to be a mom? Heck no.

Is Nico a terrible parent who picks favourites? Yes, though he'll never admit it.

Without Coral these kids would be royally messed up. I swear she hasn't done any painting since she was human.

  1. There is no such thing as being mature enough for kids. Was I then? No! am I now? No! But I am a good parent and I shall love her forever. Poor Jade though. I feel her paint. and YAY weddings!

    1. Perhaps there's no such thing as being mature enough to be a parent, but there is a thing as being mature enough to realize no one's going to do everything FOR you just because you're the youngest. The twins are Jade's kids, and sure Coral and Nico will help... but they're not going to do everything for her.

  2. Yay, Nico and Coral got married! It's a good thing for the kids that Coral is there! Though it is always cute to see a Daddy and his little girl! :)

    1. I really didn't expect Trinity to be as cute as she is <3.

I have so many unused photos of Nico and Trinity. Looove them.

  3. Aww, yay. They got married. =) Do vampires in your story have extended life spans? Cause I'm wondering what's going to happen to Coral and Nico since they're (maybe) going to live for so long.

Jade. <3 She's totally the kind of parent I would be. "You take care of them." Lol.

    1. Vampires have veeerry extended lifespans, so assuming my game behaves Nico and Coral will be around until the end of the legacy most likely. Just... not in my active family of course. (I have plans! Happy plans, probably.)

Being the same kind of mom as Jade isn't a good thing : P.

  4. Well at least Jade is willing to notice and *hopefully* correct her mistakes. Her children really are her most important priority after all.

I love love love the twins names. <3

    1. Glad you like the names! I was going to name the girl Raven but then everyone was talking about the name on the thread so I changed it to Maven for a boy... and then Marise for the girl when Jade popped out twins.

  5. Those poor twins, I'm glad Coral's there, both for them and to give Jade a good talking to about her responsibilities

    1. Coral's a good person really. And she's great with kids. Jade and Nico are pretty lucky to have her.

  6. Aw. =( That was sad. Everyone sucks at parenting except Coral apparently.

In a way I can't blame Nico for not being as close with his son initially, since Gem came about in a rather uncomfortable and embarrassing way, and on top of it all looks a lot like Danika. But on the other hand he should have started making an effort sooner, and I feel worse for Gem, and Nico's a !@#$ing idiot and, well, I hate idiots. It's right on my character sheet. "Hates cabbage, coconuts, and idiots."

    1. Nico has been an idiot since day one (obviously he got that from his dad), and that always comes back to bite him in the butt. Gem never noticed anything weird growing up, but bad feelings might come up now that he sees how Nico interacts with Trinity.

    2. Yeeeaaaah I know it's not a new thing. We see him doing stupid things pretty consistently. Lolz.

I'm mainly disappointed in Jade, because I want to root for her, but you're always turning me to root for Coral.

    3. Lets compare Jade to Mab. Both had relatively decent parents (even if Mab's social life was tragic), both left home as teens, but whereas Mab got pregnant and grew up to be a REALLY good mom to her kids, Jade didn't have to grow up. She has Coral and Nico and pretty much expected them to do everything. Hopefully she'll be a better mom now. At least they didn't get taken away by social services... (I'd have lost Trinity too! D :)

    4. Well, Mab is also psychic. So she has a rather special attachment to her children.

    5. True true. Jade only has the human feelings and not too much maternal attachment. She loves them, but I don't see her being attached or over protective.

  7. I still refuse to like Coral. She's been a selfish, mean little brat for a while now and I'm not forgiving her just yet lol. Even if her and Nico are soooooo frickin adorable!

    1. xD I think Coral's weakness (and strength) comes from always being right... even when she's wrong. She just refuses to let things go and will poke and glare until you do what she says.

  8. Yay for lots of cute (and funny) baby pictures! I don't know how you keep everyone sorted out, wow! I dread the day I roll 3 or more because I'm really terrible at the toddler teaching phase. I was absolutely perfect with Isabel, but that's because she was an only child and her Mom was home gardening all day, that's IT, otherwise no way. :P

    1. Toddlers are HARD but it was way easier with three sims in the house than with only two. And after Gem became a teen it was even easier. Potty training took the longest, but once that was done it just became so easy to leave the kids unattended and focus on the story.
